Serengeti is a Maasai word that means endless plains, that stretches to Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. It also  has families of elephants wading across the wide, muddy Rufiji /Tarangire River. Not forgetting a pride of well-fed lions basking on the grassy floor of the majestic Ngorongoro Crater and the tree climbing lions of Lake Manyara as they take a vintage point in their hunt. Last but not least, Mt Kilimanjaro – the only highest free standing mountain in Africa common known as the “Roof of Africa” it stands at 5895 meters above sea level.

Mt. Kilimanjaro Climb:

Kilimanjaro TrekkingThe Marangu Route is the easiest and shortest route to the summit. This is also the only route with the sleeping huts at every camp site with solar-powered lights and comfortable beds. All climbing groups share meals in dining huts providing a jovial and energetic atmosphere. This route is usually done in 5 days, but you can do it in 6 days for better acclimatization. You can spend the extra day resting at Horombo or climbing to a base camp below Kibo’s sub peak Mawenzi.

Selous is located in the southern part of Tanzania. It is the largest conservation area in the World and is a home to the endangered African hunting dog – Wild dog. The reserve its still raw with its natural aesthetic beauty.

Serengeti National Park

Serengeti ZebraSerengeti LionsThe name ‘Serengeti’ comes from the Maasai language and appropriately means an ‘extended place’. The National Park, with an area of 12,950 square kilometres, is as big as Northern Ireland, but its ecosystem, which includes the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the Maswa Game Reserve and the Maasai Mara Game reserve (in Kenya), is roughly the size of Kuwait. It lies between the shores of Lake Victoria in the west, Lake Eyasi in the south, and the Great Rift Valley to the east.

Ngorongor CraterNgorongoro CraterThe Ngorongoro Conservation Area spans vast expanses of highland plains, savanna, savanna woodlands and forests. Established in 1959 as a multiple land use area, with wildlife coexisting with semi-nomadic Maasai pastoralists practicing traditional livestock grazing, it includes the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest caldera. Extensive archaeological research has also yielded a long sequence of evidence of human evolution and human-environment dynamics, including early hominid footprints dating back 3.6 million years.

Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara FlamingosLake Manyara LionsLake Manyara National Park is known for the flamingos that inhabit the lake. During the wet season they inhabit the edges of the lake in flocks of thousands but they are not so present during the dry season.

More than 400 species of birds inhabit the park and many remain throughout the year. Because of this Lake Manyara National Park is a good spot for bird watching. Visitors to the park can expect to see upwards of 100 different species of bird on any day.

Leopards, lions, cheetahs, elephants, blue monkeys, dik-dik, gazelle, hippo, giraffe, impala, and more inhabit the park and many can be seen throughout the year. There is a hippo pond at one end of the park where visitors can get out of their cars and observe from a safe distance. The leopards and lions are both known to lounge in the trees while not hunting for prey.
